Figurative Artist Jayne Adams

Jayne Adams is a fine artist whose work is primarily figurative oil paintings on wooden panel supports. Her process is a layered application of drawing, paint, and glazing, creating a surface texture and finish that is significant to the outcome of each piece. Expressive mark making and color layering is sustained throughout, allowing for a varied surface, heightened color, and visual intrigue. Margins often extend beyond the actual image as the subject drifts outside the given painting space. The results are a visual energy that is the undertow for the attention of each piece.

Adams is our newest figurative artist working from live models trying to capture the essence of work and the heaviness of work after a long.

There is so much more going on in these pieces. Adams uses very little color in the figures, sometimes it's the short burst of color that bring the figure and story all together.

We are proud to include Adams as part of our 2010 line up.

What an Experience!

A quick post and run. We are still cleaning up the gallery from our recent adventure. Now, don't forget about our "Gem" show which opens this Friday, November 27, from 2pm to 4pm.

Well, we made it through the show. We are reveling in our recent show, participating in the Boston International Fine Art Show. What an experience we were showing with some of the top rated galleries in the country; galleries like The Cooley Gallery, Quidley and Company, Arcadia Fine Arts, Trees Place Gallery, and many others. Not to mention international galleries like; Galeria Quorum, Spain and Gladwell, and Company, London. Even some Andy Warhols and Laura Coombs Hills were present at this show. Star Studded...

The experience was worth it all, we met some lovely artists, collectors, and enthusiasts, but wow what a lot of work. The exposure was worth it all and we had fun. Here are some pics of our booth and of the event. Photos of our booth >>>, (Photos of the Event>>> (Christopher Gowell's piece was highlighted)).

We wanted to also mention that we met a lovely gallery, Addision Art Gallery, the owner and director were just wonderful, they are in Orleans, MA.

Check out our new works, by the participating artists, highlighted at the event.

Figurative Figures - Diana Kirkpatrick

Wow, I just had to pleasure of meeting Diana Kirkpatrick and the most exciting part she just joined our team of talented artists. I was so excited about her work I grabbed unframed pieces, which is rare for me, but I knew you would love it. Sure enough two pieces have sold before I even had the chance to post them online. I am currently working on her website page, which should be up shortly but please keep checking.

Not only is Kirkpatrick an extremely talented and professional artist she is such a lovely, and wonderful person to talk to. We are very excited to have an exclusive with Diana. What does this mean, this means Bowersock Gallery will be busting out butt to give her national exposure and raising the value of her paintings. So buy early.

But for now her work will be arriving and posted online as they are completed and finished. I anticipate great things from her. Just so you know she is not a newbie to the industry. She recently just finished up a show at the Portsmouth Fine Art Museum, has had features in Magazines, and is a seasoned painter working for over 2 decades.

Diana is to the left and Jeanne' McCartin.

Her brushwork and skill is clear in her paintings. This woman knows what she is doing. She just isn't giving you a pretty painting she is telling you a story, and demanding your attention.

Stop by our booth at the Boston International Art Show on November 12 through the 15th where we will have our feature piece from Diana.

Marc by Marc Jacobs and Bowersock Gallery Team Up

We just received our "Louis Vuitton" travel luggage for auction, donated by Marc by Marc Jacobs.

"Louis Vuitton" luggage up for Auction;
Keepall 60
Alzer 60
Waterproof Keepall

Our special occasion, "Fashion the Figure," opens Friday, September, 18th 7 to 9pm. Which will feature a mini fashion show of three select looks by Marc Jacobs, taken from the collection of Provincetown’s Marc by Marc Jacobs, 184 Commercial St., owned and operated by Robert Duffy, Jacobs’ longtime business partner. These three looks and three Louis Vuitton bags will be auctioned off, with proceeds from the items being donated to the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown, (SKIP).

The event will include a wine tasting with Wellfleet Wine Cellar and Spirits, and appetizers, donated by Farland Provisions.

What is interesting is how different the two art-forms look at the figure. Each looks to capture it and does so in very different ways. One arranges and arrests it in 2-dimention. The other enhances working with the form, draping it in art in real-time. Duffy will choose the looks for the Bowersock event based on the works of the exhibiting painters. “It’s gotten the artists very excited. They all plan on getting creative with this as

well.

The Marc Jacob’s fashions and Louis Vuitton bags are to be auctioned off, by silent auction, through the length of the show, starting Friday, September 4th, ending at noon sharp on Sunday, September 20. Bids will be taken at the gallery or by phone. No answering machine bids accepted. Check Website for rules.

The featured artists include Donna Harkins, Dennis Perrin and Gail Sauter. Each is a mature painter, with long careers marked by awards and recognition for their excellence, and each with a distinct look, differing from one another. Full Read>>>

The Gallerie's Natural Art

Who said a gallery isn't creating its own natural art. Welcome to our evening show, these shadows were so wonderful I had to photograph them. Casting from the pieces of Steven Carpenter and Lindley Briggs, in the evening light of Provincetown.

We did our share to help bring back the 60's. We just finished our Ode to Peter Max. Wow what a fun project now I see why Peter Max paints this way. The colors created their own trippe shifts of color. Check out the process>>> This is 7ft x 24ft.

The "Taking Form" Dance

“Taking Form” featured the work of Kim Bernard and Shaune McCarthy. Both two mid-career artists that are known for their strong individual visions that leave indelible impressions.

The opening reception included a special “taking form” dance performance, reflective of the exhibition’s spirit. Two great videos of the dance on youtube. (Taking Form II, and Taking Form).

Both have developed very clear approaches to their art forms. These are highly dedicated artists, in the truest sense of the word, constantly exploring, moving forward, yet somehow maintaining the essence of what makes them unique. Kim Bernard and Shaune McCarthy create individual art because they reach inside rather than follow a trend. Read more>>>

Thanks to Brad Fowler for these wonderful photos.

Lily Tomlin Hits Provincetown

Get ready for Lilly Tomlin, she arrives Saturday, August 28th to perform her stand up comedy act. Ticket sales will benefit the Provincetown Pilgrim Dog Park.

There is also a silent auction, the night of her show, which will auction off ceramic dog bowls painted by some of Provincetown's local artists; like Harvey Dodd, Shirl Roccapriore, Sally Brophy and yours truly Steve Bowersock.

What a fun project, I forgot how to think outside the box. The experience was wonderful and I encourage all painters to try it. By painting this ceramic bowl it forced me to stop and remember my training and also to try something new with no pressure.

Check out all the bowls at Provincetown Pilgrim Dog Park . You can also purchase tickets for Lilly Tomlin show at http://www.onlyatthecrown.com/.
Hurry I hear they are starting to sell fast.

Gesso goes Soy Green

A hot new primer (gesso replacement) that will change the way we paint and our views of paintings. And no, it's not Kilz Primer this is the real deal, Green Gesso. I stumbled upon this a month ago and I really wanted to share this.

“It’s the first of its kind,” Carbee proclaims. “There’s nothing like it.” Created by Marshall Carbee www.carbeesoygesso.com

The paintings are not green in color, but its in the materials. Carbee used a hemp canvas with no frame and petroleum-free paints derived from natural earth pigments. For a primer, he used a soy-based gesso—a non-toxic, non-hazardous, zero-VOC product Carbee helped create. That product, called Carbee Soy Gesso, is now available to all artists.~ The Wire

His gesso uses recycled byproduct from another manufacturer that derives vitamin E from soy. The soy content used in the process is not a food source and will not attract insects, mold or mildew, Carbee says.
What’s more, unlike conventional gesso, it is completely free of petroleum and other toxins. Although other artists have used recycled materials, like driftwood and found items, soy gesso takes the concept of green art to another level. ~ The Wire~ Full Read>>>

Provincetown Rivals Boston's Newbury Street

Clustered in the East End, with more scattered throughout the town, the art galleries of Provincetown rival any to be found on Boston's Newbury Street, or in any urban center except New York.

From the Julie Heller Gallery- at 30, the town's oldest continually-operating gallery- to newer spaces such as Alden and Bowersock, these galleries are born of dreams, sustained by sweat and often sacrifice, and nurtured by a community proud of its long tradition as any adventurous artist's colony. ~ Boston Spirit, July / August 2009 issue, pg 36.

Wow, what a nice surprise. We are proud to be included and considered in their list of Provincetown's top galleries.

Boston Spirit Magazine should be in news stands throughout New England.

Like; Julie Heller Gallery, Kobalt Gallery, Ernden Fine Art Gallery, Packard Gallery, The Alden Gallery, Albert Merola gallery, Rice/ Polak Gallery, Lyman-Eyer Gallery, Simie Maryles Gallery, William-Scott Gallery, Gallery Voyeur, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, Schoolhouse Center and Driskel Gallery, and Berta Walker.

Our review from Boston Spirit; Bowersock Gallery is also the result of realizing a dream that five years ago took Bowersock and his partner Michael Senger from new Hampshire to Provincetown, opening a gallery in the town center and moving to its current location in the East End four years ago. They brought with them a following of New Hampshire and Maine artists. Bowersock likes to "think outside the box" by designing shows with challenging themes such as "Dreams and Harsh Realities" which opens July 4 and asks participating artists to create works while listening to an ambient music CD from New York DJ Susan Morabito.~ Boston Spirit.

Gossip Lady video interview with Artist Amy Palmer

Amy Palmer talks about why she creates her work. What a great interview!~ Collectors of Amy Palmer or even if you have been following her work, this is a must see video!

Palmer is the artist known for paintings of moms in boxes, staring up from the depths with alien-like eyes — bored, horrified, bedraggled or defeated. Sometimes there's a kid on a hip, a cigarette butt hung from the lips, a coffee mug or other beverage gripped in hand.

Poetry Select Winner

Threads; Inspired by Sean Hurleys "Path to Ruin"

I know this place between rough walls
of toppling bricks burnished by time,
where puddling tears, shining like dew
flow through deserted alleys telling of
our lives, lived here in the laughter
of all poor working girls, wealthy in hopes,
earned through pennies for piecework.

Stitchers and buttonholers, rippers and
hemmers giggling of flirtations with
longshoremen and fools in the streets.

I was one of the many from distant homes,
our mended aches sewn in bleached-clean
cotton by our deft hands, turning fabric to
clothes while our voices lifted in joyful song
carried tenderly in our hearts’ memory and
gay flourishes spoke for our sadness and sighs.

I know this place where mirth was our supper,
where love was our safe shelter, and belief was
suspended by our piecework poverty.

Madeira; Inspired by Darlou Gams "Early Morning"

Drawn in
by the soft edges,
the half light
of sleep or dream,
I’m looking through
the window
of a hotel
I visited
thirty years ago.
On one side,
the city of Funchal
at dawn—
lights turning off
as if
letting go
one at a time.
On the other,
the landscape
of Madeira
with suspended clouds—
and a hidden road
winding down
the mountain.
It’s 5 AM.
Time to talk
about what has been
ignored:
not the wanting
and striving,
but what to do
with the remaining days.

The Picture Frame.

The frame. Some Tips.

This part of the process is over looked most of the time but it's just as important as a great composition. You could have the best painting ever but slap a cheesy frame on it and you just shot yourself in the foot. As a gallery owner and dealer our customers want the complete package, a great frame with a great painting. You combine the two to finish off the presentation and watch it sell itself.

The same is true with a so so painting, add a nice frame and you could be looking at a masterpiece.

So artists remember spend the extra money on a nice frame and or with a professional framer; you will see the results instantly. Here is one place that sells great frames JFM Enterprises.

The Poetic Approach highlighted in American Art Collector

Stan Moeller featured in American Art Collector's, Exhibition Previews of New Art, June 2009 issue.

Maine artist uses spontaneous brushwork and vibrant color to capture the "mood of reality" and the way light moves around and affects a subject. Read on>>>

We are very excited for Moeller and busy preparing for his opening.

Our opening "The Poetic Approach" will feature two of our best painters, Darlou Gams and Stan Moeller. Opens Friday, June 19, 7 to 9pm, with poetry readings and a wine tasting.

Darlou Gams, a renowned east coast artist, is known for her dreamy, almost ethereal landscapes and portraiture. Her work explores color, design, shape and texture. Influenced by tonalists Inness and Eaton, Gams pushes boundaries, weaving color and light to create a modern interpretation of the landscape. Read on>>>

Stan Moeller, an award-winning artist, is equally skilled, but places his emphasis on soul. He uses spontaneous brushwork and vibrant color to capture the way light moves around and affects a subject as much as the subject itself. Moeller will premier “Museum Series,” his latest collection, at the exhibition. Read on>>>
